OUR THEATRE

A Contemporary Theatre Organization Developing a Cultural Content System Using Theatre as Method

ABOUT US

Our Theatre(阮劇團), founded in 2003 and based in Chiayi, Taiwan, is a cultural laboratory that uses theatre as a method.
Through theatrical practice, Our Theatre develops long-term approaches to cultural work and social innovation, grounded in experimentation, empathy, and engagement with critical social issues.
These methods are applied across performance, festivals, education, products, and place-based cultural practices.

What We Are / What We Are Not

While rooted in Chiayi, Our Theatre is not defined by geography, language, or a single artistic format.
Instead, we treat local experience and mother tongue culture as translatable materials, transforming them into reproducible and referable cultural methods and systems.

We do not operate as a project-based theatre company, an event organizer, or a cultural education provider in isolation.
Our focus is on developing methods that allow cultural content to be generated, adapted, and sustained across different social contexts.

How the Method Operates

Performance
Our Theatre applies theatrical methods to translate critical social issues into collective experiences that can be perceived, discussed, and reflected upon.

Festival
Our Theatre applies this method through festivals, creating experimental temporal and spatial settings where shared encounters generate collective experience and social connection.

Education
Our Theatre applies this method through education, transforming experience and knowledge into environments where cultural capacity can be learned, practiced, and extended over time.

Place & Mother Tongue Culture
Our Theatre applies this method through place-based practice and mother tongue cultural contexts, converting lived experience into narrative materials for contemporary cultural production.
